Laura and I were on the road to the sea today at 7 am. It’s the best and only sane time to go to the sea on Sunday. People start pouring out on the streets a few hours later and everyone inevitably waits in a long traffic jam. Instead, early in the morning, I was able to park my car 50 metres from the entrance to the sea and throw my beach stuff next to the shore with few people around.

I have been doing watercolours lately quite regularly. I’m not happy with my inability to find a balance between freely pushing the watery colour around the paper and trying to focus on some detail from the scene. I feel more comfortable with oil paint. But the challenge is interesting and I think that every time I start a new watercolour I will find the right expression.

I don’t start with a pencil sketch and I’m really not interested in the scene but I get caught up with the composition in the first part of painting and lose a lot of time. At the end of the painting, I’m taking sloshy and full brushfulls of dark paint and moving around nicely around the entire page. I just need to start with the same spirit.
