Even though I didn’t have my car, I decided to paint this morning given the free time. I strapped my paint box to a trolley and started out for a nearby hill overlooking some pasture area near the railway station. The road goes past a rather unimpressive but quietly contemplative green valley.
The only problem was that the road was built on a very steep cliff and the side of the road overlooking the view was filled with brambles. I stomped some of the brambles down just enough to perch myself and the easel on the side of the cliff. This was a mistake.
As you paint, you need to have a little room to be able to move a bit while you are painting. This enables you to get back just enough to see the painting as a whole and not be overly concerned with the details. On this occasion, I didn’t have any room to move. I stayed in the same position for more than two hours and I feel that the painting suffers a little because of this limitation.
