I really do get too excited about painting outdoors. After I’ve cleared my schedule and checked the weather, I get everything ready the night before. I make a nice little heap of items near the door in the entrance so I can prepare without waking anybody. There is the easel and turps, my clothes and personal items like keys and stuff. All ready to go in the morning.
I set an alarm but to be quite honest, I wake up before it rings. This time I woke up at 4am and couldn’t go back to sleep so I finally got up at 5 and set off shortly after. It was still pitch dark. When I arrived on the spot.
I parked the car 20 meters away from where I set up the easel. I prepared everything to paint but it was still dark at 6:30. The square was already hopping and there were a swarm of policemen wandering around the square where I parked my car which was sitting in a tow-away zone. I figured I was close enough to move it if a police officer noticed it.
One officer came over to where I was painting, observed for a few minutes and said as he walked away βIt’s similar.β I think it was his unsophisticated way of paying a compliment. In any case, I was able to finish my painting and get my car off the zone just in time. A squad of tow-trucks was aligning themselves to clear off the rest of the cars in the zone.
