There is nothing like painting with oil paints. If you have never painted with oils you are missing a truly unique experience in your life. If you are an experienced painter, I don’t think I need to insist about its supremacy in two-dimensional mediums. The biggest problems with oils are the transport, clean-up and the amount of time needed to learn how to work well with the medium.
Each medium has something to offer for the artist; just like in music, every instrument has its particular quality. I am interested in learning about as many mediums as possible in order to understand how my expression wears different clothes. But every time I paint with oils, I am left with such an incredible experience, that I convince myself anew that oil painting is my true love.
How can I say such a thing? After decades of dedication to the craft, I find that the totality of my talent and learning can be expressed only with this medium. Everything else is palliative and unsure. It’s not that I am so sure to be able to paint with oils. It’s more like finding myself totally satisfied with the results of the colours of oil paints despite the effort that is needed.
